RECALL WORKSHOP

Teach your dog to come when called, FIRST TIME not when he/she feels like it!

The Intensive Re-call Course is designed to teach your puppy or older dog to come when called (first time!) and put YOU back in control.

The Re-call Course is ideal if your dog:

  • Ignores you calling when he is occupied with something more interesting (sniffing a blade of grass or playing with another dog)
  • Only comes when called when there are no distractions
  • Comes back to you, but only when he feels like it, not when you've told him to.
  • Runs off to greet other dogs and people
  • Chases after cats, rabbits, cyclists or joggers
  • Runs circles round you when you go to clip the lead back on
  • Avoids your grasp before shooting off into the distance
  • Prefers to play with other dogs rather than you
  • Runs dangerously towards traffic.

It is your responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that you have 100% control of your dog when he is off the lead regardless of distraction.

Not only can an out of control dog be embarrassing and frustrating; you are putting your dog's life at risk as well as frightening other people and children if your dog is not trained with a reliable recall.

So how do you get control? The Intensive Recall Course runs over 3 two hour lessons, either over 3 consecutive days, or one lesson per week. These are taught in private classes where we can work with your dogs individual issues as well as with high distractions of lots of other dogs around.

Exercises taught:

  • Create a desire in your dog to come back to you when there are distractions.
  • Come when called, first time.
  • Come when called away from other dogs.
  • Come when called away from people.
  • Controlling your dogs impulse to run off after prey animals (rabbits, deer, squirrels etc).
  • Teach your dog to come when called mid-chase (from prey, joggers, bikes or dogs).

COURSE AVAILABILITY & BOOKING

Recall Workshop at your Home.

What to prepare for the Recall Class.

  • Your dog on a well fitted collar (we prefer no harnesses unless needed for medical reasons)
  • A standard length lead. (retractable leads are acceptable, but alternatives are preferred. Long lines are ok)
  • A long 5m, 10m or longer line.
  • Your dog's favourite treats and a favourite toy

RULES

  • Exercise your dog for 10-15 minutes before the class (15 minutes before) so that he has a chance to relieve himself and drain excess energy.
  • We recommend you do not feed your dog up to 3 hours before the class, and no water for 1 hour, as feeding too close to training time can put your dog at risk of gastric torsion.
  • Please expect the trainer to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the class. If the trainer may be late, he/she will inform you by telephone and the time will be made up after the session or on your next session.
  • If your dog is ill for whatever reason or comes into season, please tell us as soon as possible.
  • If you are going to miss a lesson for whatever reason, we can arrange to reschedule your session at another time. We like to work 100% with owners who are fully commited to the course.
  • We encourage all of the family to attend classes and children are more than welcome to come to class, but they MUST be well behaved. We reserve the right to remove anyone from the class if their children are being a nuisance. Children running around the class out of control is dangerous for both themselves and the dogs around them.
